Candus Hinderer, CPA
Vice President & Director

Candus Hinderer is a Vice President of Business Development as well as a Director in our Technical practice. With over 14 years experience in Energy, Risk, Audit, Candus is uniquely qualified to understand the needs of our clients and ensure project success. Candus specializes in technical research and implementation, derivatives and mark-to-market issues, hedging activities, risk control and deal structuring as well as SEC reporting and application.

Since joining AXIA in 2006, Candus has provided technical advice on complex topics including the assessment and implementation of SFAS 157/159 and Hedging and Derivatives under SFAS 133/138. She has also designed and implemented hedge effectiveness testing tools and programs for her energy clients. Further, Candus has managed the annual goodwill impairment testing process pursuant to SFAS 142 as well as performed all aspects of purchase integration for newly acquired companies.

Prior to joining AXIA, Candus served as a Finance Manager for Shell Trading Gas & Power where she was responsible for recording power transactions and risk control functions in the New York trading office. She served as primary liaison between Senior Commercial Management and Finance/Operations. This included providing advice on Financial Structuring and Project Economics for Tolling Structures, Power Plant Purchases, Gas Supply Agreements, Gas Storage and Transportation, Asset Management, Energy Management, Full-Requirements and Retail Power Agreements. Project management responsibilities included ensuring appropriate personnel and technology resources were in place to accommodate the deal flow, transaction processing and monitoring/communications. Scheduling, status updates, budget management, and critical decision making were all required for a successful operating team. Candus also established, implemented and communicated required financial metrics for complex commercial deal structures, including RoVar, ROACE, Working Capital impacts and IRRs, as well as developed, implemented and managed appropriate processes and controls around deal approvals.  These included addressing technical treatment under EITF 98-10, EITF 01-08, FAS 133, IAS 39 and FIN 46(R) as well as focusing on the regulatory reporting needs of the FERC.

Candus earned a Bachelors of Business Administration degree, Summa Cum Laude, in Accounting from Texas State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. She is a member of the Texas Society of CPAs as well as the Women's Energy Network.
