Michael Nelson is a Senior Manager at AXIA Resources with 13 years experience with an emphasis in derivatives, SEC disclosures, financial reporting, writing and implementing financial policies and procedures and risk reporting. Michael is adept at designing and delivering process improvements across systems and job functions and has superb technical writing and communication skills.
Since joining AXIA in 2008, Michael has researched and implemented new pronouncement FSP APB14-1 related to Convertible Debt, performed hedge-effectiveness testing for interest rate swaps, floors and caps, redesigned and performed SFAS 157 Credit reserve calculation and authored quarterly memos regarding technical topics.
Prior to joining AXIA Resources, Michael was Calpine's Vice-President of Trading Operations & Derivative Accounting where he led all technical issues as they related to SFAS/SFAS 149/SFAS 155 and performed a detailed contract review on contracts to conclude on treatment under SFAS 13/SFAS 133. Michael was also a member of the disclosure committee for SEC filings and a Section 302 certifier. He designed and implemented a system for daily profit sharing calculation in a joint venture, created and implemented processes for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and developed system and process improvements to reduce the work week by 20 hours. Michael began his career at Koch Industries a Senior Accountant of Risk Reporting where he designed and implemented a trade reconciliation system to accelerate close deadlines by 2 days, designed and implemented a system for deal reconciliations and supported financial reporting for multiple products.
Michael earned a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Accounting, Magna Cum Laude, from Wichita State University.
